Beauty is in the eye of the beholder… or listener, as the case may be. Beleza é do Eye of the Beholder… ou ouvinte, se for o caso. Art emerges from an individual’s perceptions and experiences, and it is received through the lenses of others’ unique backgrounds. Art. emerge de um indivíduo da percepção e experiência, e que é recebido através das lentes dos outros "únicos backgrounds. Some art is created in response to more universally acknowledged truths, and therefore speaks easily to many people. Other art is created out of a highly unique experience, and may communicate only with a choice few. What is art? O que é arte?

Once upon a time, art = beauty. Uma vez no tempo, a arte = beleza.

But who decides what is beautiful? Mas que decide o que é bonito?

For many, art = communication. Para muitos, comunicação = art.

Swirling colors, soaring rhythms and succinct combinations of words serve to express what our soul cannot otherwise utter. Agitação cores, ritmos crescentes e sucinto combinações de palavras servem para expressar aquilo que a nossa alma não pode pronunciar em contrário.

What is art? O que é arte?

We could say that art is the expression of emotions and ideas through various mediums. Poderíamos dizer que a arte é a expressão de emoções e ideias através de diferentes mídias.

But is that enough? Mas será que basta?

Communication is a two-sided process. A comunicação é um processo em frente e verso. The speaker expresses herself, the listener processes what is being communicated, and responds to the message she has received. O orador manifesta-se, o ouvinte processos que está a ser comunicada, e que responda à mensagem que ela tenha recebido. So it is with art. Por isso, é com a arte. The artist creates something outside of himself to express and understanding of something he has experienced within himself. O artista cria algo fora de si próprio e de expressar a compreensão de algo que ele passou por dentro de si. Once the art has been created, it is out there, vulnerable to the receptivity of other people. Depois que a arte foi criada, é por aí, vulneráveis à receptividade das outras pessoas.

Back to the article, what makes an artist great? Voltar para o artigo, o que torna um grande artista?

So much in art is related to the context in which it is presented. Tanto na arte está relacionado com o contexto no qual é apresentada. When a virtuoso assumes the identity of a street performer, does their art decrease in value? Quando um virtuoso assume a identidade de uma rua executante, faz sua arte diminuição no valor? What is it that convinces us art is valuable? O que é que convence-nos a arte é valiosa?

Despite our best intentions, we humans are a cognitively simple society. Apesar das nossas melhores intenções, nós seres humanos são uma simples cognitively sociedade. We like our choices well defined and served up in clever packaging. Nós gostamos nossas escolhas bem definidas e serviu-se na embalagem inteligente. We like options that remind us we are sane because, after all, we share the opinions of others. When we’re not quite sure where something belongs, we don’t know what to do with it, and we either sit down and think about it or we toss it aside. We haven’t left ourselves much time for the “sit and think” option. Nós não nos deixou muito tempo para nós próprios o "sentar e pensar" opção.

Or, perhaps, I’m just speaking of myself. Ou, talvez, eu estou apenas falando de mim mesma.

In honor of National Poetry Month, I challenged myself to write more poems in April. Em honra da National Poetry Month, eu desafiou-me a escrever poemas mais em abril. I am not a poet by nature. Não sou um poeta por natureza. I fear that someone may not like what I have written, or it may seem elementary, or a word may not mean quite what I thought it meant. Receio que alguém pode não desejar o que tenho escrito, ou pode parecer elementar, ou de uma palavra não pode significar muito o que eu pensava que significava. Yet, I write. Ora, eu escrevo. In the moment, the words are coming from an experience, and I have to believe that can speak into someone else’s life. No momento, as palavras são provenientes de uma experiência, e eu tenho de acreditar que alguém possa falar em sua vida.

I also must acknowledge that it will not speak to everyone. Eu também deve reconhecer que ela não vai falar com todos.

So how do we respond to another’s offering of art? Então como vamos reagir a uma outra da oferta de arte?

Objectivity is not a choice, unless we want to turn art into something lifeless and mechanical. Objectividade não é uma escolha, a menos que queremos transformar em algo arte e vida mecânica.

How about trying to see it through different lenses, walk around it in different shoes, respond to it from different perspectives? Perhaps it speaks to you right where you are, and you can interact with ease. Talvez você fala a direita onde você é, e você pode interagir com facilidade. Perhaps you sit together in a coffee shop, late into the night, struggling to communicate through an exhaustive conversation, only to leave more confused than you entered. Talvez você se sentam juntos em um coffee shop, tarde na noite, lutando para se comunicar através de uma conversa exaustiva, apenas para deixar mais confuso do que você digitou. That’s ok. That's OK.

Communicate your attempt. Comunique sua tentativa.

We don’t all connect with every person we meet, and we will not connect with all of the art we encounter, but let us strive to understand the detachment. Não ligue todos os que nos reunimos com cada pessoa, e não vamos entrar em contato com a todos da arte nos deparamos, mas deixe-nos esforçar para compreender o descolamento. In the process, we may not only gain another perspective, but we will learn much more about our own. Durante o processo, pode não só ganhar uma outra perspectiva, mas vamos aprender muito mais sobre a nossa própria.
