It’s cold as hell. E 'freddo come un inferno.

It’s fifteen degrees below zero. E 'quindici gradi sotto zero. -15. They say with Dicono con wind chill wind chill it feels like -35. ci si sente come -35. That’s cold. Che fa freddo. Even for a Minnesotan. Anche per un Minnesotan.

But I remember the winter of 1995.  That winter it got to -40 (without wind chill). Ma mi ricordo l'inverno del 1995. Questo inverno ottenne a -40 (senza wind chill). Most of my fellow Minnesotans don’t share my enthusiasm. La maggior parte dei miei connazionali Minnesotans non condividere il mio entusiasmo. But some do. Ma alcuni fare. They are influenced by the Scandinavian (the descendants of vikings) culture of the dominant European settlers in this state.  The people can sometimes be as frigid as the cold. And the often drab-yet-harsh weather causes us to embrace aesthetics so that we can bring color and flavor to our lives. Minnesotans, generally, are hardy people, resourceful people, sometimes emotionally distant, hard-working, creative, a bit introverted, and technologically savvy.  That is how we can still thrive when it is -15 below zero outside, without missing a beat. Minnesotans, in generale, sono resistenti persone, di risorse di persone, a volte emotivamente distante, duro lavoro, creativo, un po 'introverso, e tecnologicamente esperti. And these cultural values shape our church life.  It is no accident that the Twin Cities is a sort of capital (at least one of the capitals) for all-things-Emergent.  Sure, the undercurrent of Lutheranism helped pave the way for a progressive strain of evangelicalism, but Minnesota tends to embrace the sorts of things Emergent is about: creativity, resourcefulness, technological savviness, introversion (yes, I’d wager that Emergent is primarily introverted…for all the talk, the movement tends towards intellectual pursuits rather than activism). E questi valori culturali forma la nostra vita ecclesiale. Non è un caso che il Twin Cities è una sorta di capitale (almeno una delle capitali) per tutte le cose--emergenti. Certo, il sottofondo di Luteranesimo contribuito a spianare la strada ad una progressiva ceppo di Evangelismo, Minnesota, ma tende ad abbracciare il genere di cose è di circa emergenti: la creatività, l'inventiva, tecnologico savviness, introversione (sì, ho scommessa emergenti che è in primo luogo introverso… per tutti i discorsi, il movimento tende verso intellettuale perseguimenti, piuttosto di attivismo).

So, I’m glad that it is as cold as hell here. Così, mi fa piacere che sia il più freddo come l'inferno qui. The cold air forces us to pursue other things. Il aria fredda ci costringe a perseguire altre cose. We’re not distracted with nice weather for half the year. Non siamo distratti con bel tempo per mezzo l'anno. And that helps get the creativity flowing. E che aiuta a ottenere la creatività che scorre.
