Thank You MBC
Written by Mark Van Steenwyk : December 10, 2005
Today I received a Christmas present in the mail from the Minnesota Baptist Conference. At first, I thought it was a large framed picture. Upon opening the box, I found an enormous (10×10 inch) bar of milk chocolate bearing the logo of the Minnesota Baptist Conference. I immediately burst out laughing.
Don’t get me wrong; it is a cool gift. But I couldn’t help but wonder the though processes which lead to the decision to send such a gift:
Mr. X. walks into the office of Truett Lawson, president of the Minnesota Baptist Conference. Truett is busy doing important paperworky stuff.
Mr. X: "Hey Truett, what should we send to our pastors and church platners this year as a gift of appreciation?"
Truett: "I dunno. I was thinking of something with our logo on it."
Mr. X: "Like a mug or t-shirt? How about a mouse pad?"
Truett: "Nah. I was thinking of something like a gigantic piece of milk chocolate…do you think we could get a huge piece of chocolate with our logo on it?"
Mr. X: "Excellent idea, sir! Consider it done!
Truett: Returns to important MBC work.

I can’t believe it. Really. Affirmation through chocolate? I’ve gotta think about this a bit, but I’ve got a feeling that somebody in the BGC office reconnected with their childhood dreams after a recent encounter with Burton’s revision of the chocolate factory.
But a king-kong-size cornerstone-like piece of cocoa fun Why not include a picture of the BGC president in it??
Maybe they were thinking it’d be a way to connect with your neighbors…ahem…
Classic… you just can’t make up stuff like this!
Damn! I didn’t get one this year. I looked forward every year to taking a huge bite out of the MBC.
