Yes, I know
Written by Mark Van Steenwyk : November 29, 2005
I realize that I change the look of my blog a lot. It isn’t that I’m pickier than the average bear. My problem isn’t that I’m indecisive; it is that I usually jump before looking. In other words, I’m the sort of guy who assumes that the light is going to be green until I receive sensory imput to contradict me. Because of this human tendency of mine (in StrengthsFinder terms, I am an Activator). So, when I get an idea that is worthy, I act upon it. And often, as I visit my own blog, I think to myself "I think I can make it look better."
I’d like to hear your thoughts on how my site could be better. Do you like the new banner? It is a picture of yours truly with a background picture of Riverside Plaza (on the West Bank of Minneapolis).

UPDATE: I’ve changed the look yet again! Ryan mentioned how long it took to load up the old banner (read comments), so I’ve simplified things a bit…my whims have struck again!

Christarchy! is a growing network of small groups for people who want to put the ethical teachings of Jesus into practice.
Submergent is a network of leaders who, embracing the Anabaptist impulse, are living into the Kingdom of God in a postmodern, post-colonial, post-Christian world. Together, we will re-baptize the Christian imagination!
Anchored in the West Bank neighborhood of Minneapolis, Missio Dei is committed to following Jesus' way of peace, simplicity, prayer, and hospitality.
The Missio Dei Breviary includes morning and evening prayers for one month. Edited (and freely shared) by Missio Dei, it draws primarily upon the Gospels, reflects Anabaptist convictions, and emphasizes missional commitment.

Nice to see a photo from my neighborhood. So here’s my thoughts: I’m really interested in what you have to say, so I normally read you blog through my RSS reader, but when I come to your site, the big image loads slow and gets in the way of me seeing what new things you have to say. The image takes up half of my browser window and if I don’t need to scroll, I’d rather not have to. It seems to me that in a blog setting it’s the ideas not the packaging that make the difference, so focus on the ideas. There’s my $0.02.
Ryan,
Good suggestion. I’m falling in love with my sexy face being in the banner, but I could always just look in the mirror more often.
By the way, are you going to submit a proposal for the conference, or what?! If your in a time crunch, you could just send me a brief description and title via email.
maybe you can redirect your activator strength powers towards activating more people you know towards blogging or missio deo instead of your redesigning your blog ad nauseum!
I like the size of the new banner, a much better balance. By the way, I will get something to you soon.
