My friend (and worthy blogging adversary) David (aka “dlw”) has Mein Freund (und würdige Gegner Blogging) David (alias "DLW") stopped blogging Bloggen gestoppt . David is a brilliant economist/seminary student and it shows–he consistently (and intellegently) challenges me on this blog–most notably in my series “Church and State.” . I think it’ll be a good match, at least for now. Ich denke, es wird ein gutes Spiel, zumindest für den Moment. I want something where I can teach and use both my quantitative and qualitative skills and right now it looks like I’ll be focused more on my quantitative skills at NNU. As it is, I still hope that Bethel Sem can switch to having two Social Ethics and two Syst Theology classes, but the admin seems resistant to that and the theology profs aren’t too crazy about prepping for new classes. I’m guessing that Social Ethics classes require more prep-work as the key topics have a higher turn-around than with systematic theology and are more ideologically “hazardous”, alas! It’s looking good for Idaho and I’m hoping to be part of a house church in Nampa there. Es ist gut für Idaho, und ich bin der Hoffnung, dass ein Teil der Kirche ein Haus in Nampa.
I’m enjoying the Great Giveaway as it is a nice middle-level theoretical ecclesiological book that is well tied to reflexion of practice. I’d emph more the biblical roots of liturgy if I were him and how most of the early Christians were illiterate so liturgy was even more important and shd be held on to. The nature and role of the liturgy in the life of the church is perhaps the key area where David Fitch and I disagree. Die Art und Rolle der Liturgie im Leben der Kirche ist vielleicht der wichtigste Bereich, in dem David Fitch und ich nicht zustimmen. Not a HUGE disagreement, mind you–but a disagreement none-the-less. Nicht eine riesige Uneinigkeit, Geist you-aber keine Meinungsverschiedenheiten-die-weniger. I haven’t tried to engage him much on it (or really talked much about it in general) because Missio Dei is just in its begining stages of understanding liturgy. Ich habe nicht versucht, sich ihm zu sehr auf sie (oder wirklich sprach viel über sie in der Regel), weil Missio Dei ist nur in seinen Anfängen des Verstehens Liturgie. We’re moving more in that direction, but without feeling tied to particular practices for their own sake. Wir gehen mehr in diese Richtung, aber ohne Gefühl, gebunden an bestimmte Praktiken um ihrer selbst willen. I don’t want to do something out of some misguided sense of ecumenical solidarity–instead I want us to explore liturgy as a way of acknowledging God’s presence in our community, as a way of shaping us into Christ’s likeness, and in a way that is informed by the Tradition (but not enslaved to it). Ich möchte nicht, dass etwas zu tun, von einigen fehlgeleiteten Sinn für ökumenische Solidarität statt Ich möchte, dass wir erforschen Liturgie als einen Weg der Anerkennung Gottes Gegenwart in unserer Gemeinschaft, als Mittel zur Gestaltung uns in Christus die Ähnlichkeit, und in einer Weise, dass sie von der Tradition (aber nicht versklavt zu).
