An open post to my fellow techno-elites مفتوحة الى ما بعد زملائي الفنية والنخب

It wasn’t long ago…about six or seven years or so…that I was almost a Luddite.  I hated the fact that so many people were using cell phones.  It seemed to me that the idea of making communication immediate and labor-free cheapened communication.  Instead of calling their spouses during their lunch break or before they leave work in order to touch base, couples began calling each other from stupid places like the grocery store or the video rental place (this was before Netflix).  At a moment’s notice, a guy can call his wife and ask "do you want me to pick up Moonstruck or Mermaids, honey? I forget." وكان قبل فترة ليست طويلة… نحو ست او سبع سنوات أو نحو ذلك… انني كنت تقريبا لاضيه الاول مكروه في حقيقة ان العديد من الناس يستخدمون الهواتف المحموله. يبدو لي ان فكرة جعل الاتصال الفوري والعمل الحر - الاتصال مرخص. بدلا من الدعوة الى أزواجهن اثناء فترة الغداء أو قبل خروجها من العمل من اجل التواصل ، والازواج وبدأ يدعو الى بعضهما بعضا من الغباء اماكن مثل بقالة او الفيديو استئجار مكان (كان هذا قبل netflix). فى لحظة 'الاشعار ، يمكن ان دعوة الرجل وزوجته وأسأل" هل تريد مني ان اتناول معتوه او حوريات البحر والعسل؟ أنسي ".

I also noticed that people were no longer content with their desktops.  Many of my friends opted for laptops (something I thought were only for graduate students and computer industry professionals) or pdas.  I resisted, I really did.  I was one of the last people I knew to get a CD player (in fact, I had only had an 8 track player and a record player until my teens, and I am only 29).  I was bound and determined not to get sucked into shiney allure of new technology.  It happened quickly.  I think I started with a cell phone, and then I decided that it made sense to turn in my Day Planner for a simple PDA.  I got a hand-me down from a friend.  Then I started selling books online and realized that I could check prices better if I had a better PDA with a cellular modem attached for easy price-checking.  When I was considering going to seminary, I decided that I wanted to take notes in class, so I got a keyboard for my PDA (which was an HP Jornada).  This quickly proved to be inadequate.  Since I had a Pentium II 400Mhz computer, and it was 2002, I decided to get a laptop to replace my desktop.  The keyboard wasn’t powerful enough, so about a year or so ago, I replaced that with my Dell 5160 and also bought my wife a little Gateway 200 so she wouldn’t have to use mine. كما انني لاحظت ان الناس لم يعودوا المحتوى مع اجهزة كمبيوتر. العديد من اصدقائي اختار الحواسيب الحجريه (ما رأيت الا لطلاب الدراسات العليا وتقدم صناعة برامج الكمبيوتر في الفئة الفنية) او أجهزة PDA. قاوم الاول ، انا حقا لم الأول هو واحد من الماضي كنت أعرف الناس للحصول على مشغل الأقراص المدمجه (في الواقع ، كان لي فقط 8 المسار كان لاعبا وسجل لاعب حتى سن المراهقه بلادي ، وانا فقط 29). ملزمة وكنت مصرة على ان لا أحصل على امتصاص shiney الى اغراء من التكنولوجيا الجديدة . حصل على وجه السرعه. اعتقد انني بدأت مع الهاتف الخليوي ، وبعد ذلك قررت انه من المعقول ان بدوره في بلدي اليوم المخطط لمجرد المساعد الشخصي الرقمي. حصلت على يد - لي صديق من اسفل. ثم بدأت ببيع الكتب على الانترنت وادركت انني استطيع ان أعبر عن التحقق من اسعار افضل اذا كان لي ان افضل المساعد الشخصي الرقمي مع مودم خليوي المرفقه لسهولة فحص الاسعار. عندما كنت النظر في الذهاب الى المدرسة ، قررت ان اردت ان تأخذ تلاحظ في الدرجة ، حتى انني حصلت على لوحة المفاتيح بلدي المساعد الشخصي الرقمي (الذي كان حصان Jornada) ، وذلك سرعان ما ثبت انها غير كافية. كانت لي منذ الثاني بنتيوم 400mhz الحاسوب ، وكان عام 2002 ، قررت أن تحصل على اجهزة الكمبيوتر المحمول لتحل محل بلادي سطح المكتب. وحة المفاتيح ليست قوية بما فيه الكفايه ، حتى حوالى عام ، أو قبل ذلك ، اود ان يستعاض عن بلدي مع Dell 5160 وايضا اشترت زوجتي قليلا حتى 200 بوابة وقالت إنها لن يكون لاستخدام الالغام.

Now I find myself desiring a more sleek and powerful laptop, as well as a more beefy cell phone with will effortlessly synch with Outlook 2003.  I also want to start podcasting, and find that TiVo would be swell…etc.  Currently, I feel pretty strong, self-assured that I won’t cave anytime soon on any of these (except maybe the cell phone). اجد نفسي الان اكثر رغبة قوية املس وأجهزة الكمبيوتر المحمول ، فضلا عن زيادة beefy الهاتف الخليوي مع بذل اي جهد وسوف synch مع توقعات عام 2003. واريد ايضا ان تبدأ Podcasting ، ووجدت ان Tivo سيكون تتورم الخ… في الوقت الراهن ، اشعر انني جميلة قوية ، الذاتي وانني اؤكد لكم انني لن كهف في اي وقت قريب على اي من هذه (ربما باستثناء الهاتف الخليوي).

It is times like these that I remember that my heros are people like St. Francis, Rich Mullins, and Mother Theresa.  How can I follow Jesus in the margins while I am part of the techno-elite? ومن مثل هذه الاوقات ان اذكر ان بلادي هي البطل اشخاص مثل سانت فرانسيس ، Mullins الغنيه ، والام تيريزا. كيف يمكنني أن أتباع يسوع في الهوامش في حين انني جزء من النخبه الفنية و؟ Many of you whose blogs I read and who read my blog are probably all in the same boat.  We have the same desire to reach out and love like Jesus…the same desire to live faithfully.  But most of us, as evidenced by our blogging, are techno-elites.  We have loads of technology and go to churches that are perhaps tech-savvy.  Does this ever bother any of you, or am I alone in my self-doubt? العديد منكم الذين بلوق وأنا أقرأ وأقرأ من بلدي وربما بلوق جميعا في نفس القارب. دينا نفس الرغبة فى الوصول الى مثل يسوع والحب… نفس الرغبة في العيش بأمانة. ولكن الاهم من ذلك لنا ، ونحن كما يتضح من المدونات ، هي شركة تكنو - النخب. الاحمال لدينا التكنولوجيا والذهاب الى الكنائس التي هي - ربما تقنيه الشطاره. هل هذا يزعج أي من اي وقت مضى لكم ، أو هل انا في بلدي وحدة الذاتي شك؟
