What is usury?  Usury is lending someone money and charging them interest.  Throughout much of church history, usury was considered sinful.  IT seems that protestants in general have failed to treat usury with much seriousness, leaving it to catholics and neo-catholics like CS Lewis to address the matter. ما هو الربا؟ الربا هي اقراض اموال شخص وشحن لها مصلحة. انحاء كثيرة من تاريخ الكنيسة ، والربا يعتبر خاطئا. ويبدو ان البروتستانت في العام قد اخفقت في التعامل مع الكثير من خطورة الربا ، تاركا لالكاثوليك والكاثوليك المحافظين الجدد مثل خدمات العملاء لويس لمعالجة هذه المساله.

Here’s some biblical references to usury (this is just a quick cross-section): وإليك بعض الاشارات الى الربا في الكتاب المقدس (وهذا مجرد سريعه عبر الباب) :

Exodus 22:25 If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest. نزوح 22:25 اذا كنت من منح القروض الى واحد من بينكم شعبي هو من المحتاجين ، لا يمكن ان يكون الدائن ا ؛ تهمة لا مصلحة له.

Leviticus 25:36-37 Do not take interest of any kind from him, but fear your God, so that your countryman may continue to live among you. سفر اللاويين 25:36-37 لا تأخذ مصلحة من أي نوع منه ، وانما إلهكم إله والخوف ، وذلك بأن ما تتمتعون به مواطن ايار / مايو ما زال يعيش بينكم. You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit. وينبغي عليك ان لا تقدم له المال في المصالح او بيعه للاغذية في الربح.

Deuteronomy 23:19-20 Do not charge your brother interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest. سفر التثنيه 23:19-20 لا تهمه مصلحة أخيك ، سواء كان ذلك على اموال او مواد غذاءيه او اي شيء آخر يمكن ان يكسب اهتمام. You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a brother Israelite, so that the LORD your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess. يمكنك ان المسؤول عن مصلحة أجنبي ، ولكن ليس أخ اسرائيلي ، حتى ان الرب الهك قد يبارككم في كل شيء ، وضعت يدك في الارض لانت لامتلاك دخول.

Nehemiah 5:6-11 When I heard their outcry and these charges, I was very angry. Nehemiah 5:6-11 عندما سمعت ضجه وعلى هذه التهم ، وانا غاضب جدا. I pondered them in my mind and then accused the nobles and officials. انا منهم تفكر في ذهني وبعد ذلك اتهم المسؤولون والنبلاء. I told them, "You are exacting usury from your own countrymen!" قلت لهم : "انت من الربا الصارمه الخاصة بك المواطنون!" So I called together a large meeting to deal with them and said: "As far as possible, we have bought back our Jewish brothers who were sold to the Gentiles. Now you are selling your brothers, only for them to be sold back to us!" الى جانب ذلك دعوت الى اجتماع كبير للتعامل معها ، وقال : "قدر الامكان ، لقد اشترى لنا عودة اليهود من الاخوة تم بيعها الى الوثنيون. أنت الآن بيع اهلكم ، فقط لبها وبيعها في العودة الينا ! " They kept quiet, because they could find nothing to say. وهي الصمت ، لانها يمكن ان تجد شيئا لأقول.
So I continued, "What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies? I and my brothers and my men are also lending the people money and grain. But let the exacting of usury stop! Give back to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves and houses, and also the usury you are charging them-the hundredth part of the money, grain, new wine and oil." حتى انني وتابع : "ان ما تقومون به ليس من الصواب. انت لا ينبغي ان يمشي في الخوف من الله لتفادي اللوم من غير اليهود اعداء لنا؟ انا واخوتي وبلادي الرجال ايضا اقراض اموال الشعب والحبوب. ولكن واسمحوا الصارمه من الربا توقف! تعطى لهم فورا العودة الى حقولهم ومزارع الكروم ، كروم الزيتون والبيوت ، وكذلك الربا انت منهم - فإن شحن مائة جزء من المال ، والحبوب ، والنبيذ جديدة من النفط ".

Psalm 15 مزمور 15

LORD , who may dwell in your sanctuary? الرب ، من الاسهاب في ايار / مايو في الملجأ الخاص بك؟
Who may live on your holy hill? ايار / مايو من يعيشون على تلة المقدسة الخاصة بك؟

He whose walk is blameless وقال انه هو الذي يمشي تلام
and who does what is righteous, وتفعل ما هو من الصالحين ،
who speaks the truth from his heart من يتحدث عن الحقيقة من قلبه
and has no slander on his tongue, وليس له اي افتراء على لسانه ،
who does his neighbor no wrong هل من جار له اي خطأ

Ezekiel 16:5-8 حزقيال 16:5-8

"Suppose there is a righteous man "لنفترض ان هناك رجلا صالحا
who does what is just and right. هل من ما هو عادل والحق.
He does not eat at the mountain shrines وقال انه لا يأكل في جبال المزارات ،
or look to the idols of the house of Israel. او التطلع الى الاصنام من بيت اسرائيل.
He does not defile his neighbor’s wife وقال انه لا المضيق الجبلي له زوجة الجار
or lie with a woman during her period. او كذبة مع امرأة خلال فترة.
He does not oppress anyone, وقال انه لا تضطهد احدا ،
but returns what he took in pledge for a loan. ولكن العودة ما انه يعتبر في التعهد للحصول على قرض.
He does not commit robbery وهو لا يرتكب سرقة
but gives his food to the hungry ولكنه يعطي طعامه الى الجياع
and provides clothing for the naked. وتقدم الملابس للعراة.
He does not lend at usury وقال انه لا يساعد في الربا
or take excessive interest. او تأخذ الاهتمام المفرط.
He withholds his hand from doing wrong وقال انه يحجب يده عن القيام به خطأ
and judges fairly between man and man. والقضاة الى حد ما بين رجل ورجل.

Can anyone tell me a good reason why Christians practice usury?  It seems that most people assume that capitalism is a good, and since it depends upon things like usury, we shouldn’t be critical of usury.  Though the passages above are dealing with Israel, it seems, at the very least, Christians shouldn’t charge interest to one another.  I would also argue that we shouldn’t charge interest for others.  It is an oppressive system that the church should alleviate.  Some churches that have started credit unions.  Some churches help people buy homes or pay for college with no interest loans.  But the Church should no longer blindly accept a practice that is clearly non-Christian. فهل يمكن لاحد ان يقول لي سبب وجيه لماذا المسيحيين ممارسة الربا؟ يبدو ان معظم الناس ان نفترض ان الراسماليه هي جيدة ، ونظرا لأنه يعتمد على أشياء مثل الربا ، ونحن لا ينبغي أن يكون حاسما من الربا. الرغم من المقاطع اعلاه هي التعامل مع اسرائيل على ما يبدو ، على أقل تقدير ، ينبغي ان المسيحيين لا تهمه مصلحة لأحد آخر. وأود القول ايضا انه لا ينبغي لنا ان فرض فائدة للآخرين. وهو نظام قمعي ان الكنيسة ينبغي ان تخفف منها. بعض الكنائس التي بدأت الائتمان النقابات. بعض الكنائس مساعدة الناس على شراء المنازل او دفع لكلية لا مصلحة القروض. ولكن ينبغي ان الكنيسة لم تعد تقبل عمياء ومن الواضح ان هذه الممارسه غير المسيحيين.
