Heretical Anabaptists Herético Anabaptists

I had a good chat on Thursday with a couple Jehovah’s Witnesses that came to my door. Eu tinha um bom bate-papo na quinta-feira com uma jovem Testemunhas de Jeová que veio à minha porta. Before they got into their pitch too much, I shocked them by telling them that I agreed with where they were coming from (that things took a bad turn in the 4th century when the Roman State and the Church became intertwined. The difference between them and myself, I explained, was that they throw out the baby with the bathwater. Many evangelicals today have an anabaptist edge–feeling that the Constantinian turn was a mistake and that the collapse of Christendom is a relatively good thing. But we are orthodox; yet Jehovah’s Witnesses are not. They are heretical anabaptists. I am sympathetic to where they are coming from, but they just went too far. Antes de eles tiveram em seu arremesso muito, me chocou-los por lhes dizer que me acordou com o contexto em que foram provenientes de (mau que as coisas tomaram um turno no 4 º século, quando o Estado ea Igreja Romana tornou interligadas. A diferença entre eles e eu, me explicou, foi a que deitar fora o bebé com a água do banho. We had a great conversation–something that is hard to have with a JW, since they are trained not to get into discussions–about what is wrong with the church today. Tínhamos uma grande conversa-algo que é difícil que com uma JW, uma vez que eles são treinados para não entrar em discussão-sobre aquilo que está errado com a igreja de hoje. I resonated with what the senior JW (the one training the college aged student who accompanied him) had to say. Eu ressoou com o que os altos JW (a uma formação com idades compreendidas entre os estudantes da academia que ele acompanhados) tinha a dizer. He had a firm grasp of the perils of trying to forge an alliance between the church and the American Way. Ele tinha uma empresa de compreender os perigos de tentar forjar uma aliança entre a Igreja e da American Way.

I am passionately Orthodox. Eu sou ortodoxo apaixonadamente. I am jazzed about the doctrine of the Trinity, the Virgin Birth, etc., but something in me has to wonder…which is worse: to be, like this JW fellow, a heretic with a Kingdom mindset, or a horribly stereotypical sort of Christain–who is greedy, self-absorbed, consumeristic, and lacking in love, yet who still affirms the creed? Estou jazzed sobre a doutrina da Trindade, a Virgem Nascimento, etc, mas algo em mim tem a… pergunto o que é pior: a ser, como este JW concidadãos, um herege com uma mentalidade Reino, ou uma espécie de horrível estereotipada Christain-que é voraz, a auto-absorvida, consumeristic, e desprovido de amor, ainda que ainda afirma o credo?

Don’t get me wrong. Não me interpretem mal. Orthodoxy is incredibly important. Ortodoxia é extremamente importante. But there is more than Orthodoxy. Mas há mais de ortodoxia.
